The Trauma Informed Care Team at Center
for Community Support & Research at Wichita State University will host the week-long training, Intentional
Peer Support (IPS) with Shery Mead May 17 – 21 in Wichita. This training is open to individuals who
have experienced psychiatric diagnosis and are currently utilizing their lived experience to assist others in the recovery
journey through peer support. The training is funded by the state of Kansas SRS Division of Behavioral
Health Services.
When we talk about peer support, we often aren’t really sure what makes peer support unique from other
helping roles. Too, we sometimes aren’t sure what our role is as a “helper.”
Intentional Peer Support offers a new framework for thinking about the peer relationship while providing skills that
allow people to mutually explore how they’ve come to “know what they know.” In other words, through authentic,
intentional conversations, people can examine their assumptions about who they are, what power-shared relationships can look
like, and ultimately what’s possible in mutual relationships of hope and healing. This training is an exciting opportunity
to further examine peer support relationships as a process of exploration and discovery.

had any training in CAP or CPS.
